Aunque su origen no está muy definido, diversas fuentes señalan como promotor al conde de Chesterfield, que encargó un sofá a un ebanista que permitiera a los caballeros de la alta sociedad sentarse en los clubes con la espalda recta para evitar posturas poco elegantes.
La característica fundamental del sofá Chester es el capitoné, o botones cosidos que le dan ese aire tan elegante. Al comienzo no llevaba cojines el asiento, sino que se sentaban sobre la estructura acolchada sin mas. El respaldo y los brazos van en voluta. Los materiales en los cuales se realiza son varios.
A mi me fascina el terciopelo en cualquier tapizado, pero en el chester reconozco que me hipnotiza...ese aspecto tan elegante tan suave y masculino a la vez ...
